It’s a long word for a simple treatment that will give you noticeable results immediately, but what exactly is a microdermabrasion, how does it work, and who should get them. I would love to tell you.
There are two kinds of Microdermabrasion treatments Crystal Microdermabrasion and Diamond Microdermabrasion. Crystal Microdermabrasion uses crystals that are then vacuumed off the skin. This can be a bit tricky as the crystals can be hard to work with and get into the wrong places (like your eyes or mouth) which is no Bueno. Diamond Microdermabrasion is the treatment that I use here at Kika Skincare. It utilizes a special machine that has a wand with small specially cut diamonds that gently exfoliate away the dead skin cells on the surface of the skin. At the same time a vacuum within the wand sucks the dead skin away. It’s a very gentle procedure and is completely painless. It feels slightly rough but the diamonds are cut in such a way that the skin is not damaged at all. Before treatment we clean the skin and afterwards we apply moisturizer to condition the skin. There is no downtime after the treatment so it is possible to return to work the same day. Some clients with sensitive skin may experience some redness after the treatment but it should be minimal and not last more than a few hours.
Even with just one treatment you’ll notice your skin feels softer, smoother and more supple than before. You’ll notice a decrease in the appearance of fine lines and discoloration. You will have an overall more youthful look. However, for even better results its best to begin with a series of 3-6 treatments spaced 1 week apart. With a series of Diamond Microdermabrasion’s the effects will be compounded. After the series it’s best to come in once a month for Because this treatment increases collagen production by increasing blood flow to the skin it’s a great way to reduce the appearance of Acne Scars and Stretch Marks. It is also a great treatment for blackheads as the diamond tipped wand loosens the deep down dirt and oil and the vacuum sucks it away.
